REGGAE MAKOSSA
      CARLOS CULTURE
     
DJ Carlos Culture, a member of the Reggae Makossa crew, is a
native of Colombia SA. Carlos has also been working in the reggae
industry for many years. First in Columbus, Ohio during the
mid 80’s, starting out as a guest DJ on college radio
at Ohio State University’s WOSR, Ohio State Radio. From
there it was on to San Diego, California where he took his DJing
more seriously. In1993, he got his first weekly gig DJing before
and in between bands at Winston’s Beach Club. Keeping
busy Carlos Culture found himself behind the turntables opening
for Int’l reggae artists like Gregory Isaacs, Luciano,
Buju Banton, Sizzla, Beres Hammond, Bennie Man, Mighty Diamonds
and many more.
This
DJ became known for the conscious selections he played at festivals
like Bob Marley Day since 1997-2003, Sierra Neveda World Music
Festival 1998, and at top reggae clubs like Club Dread in San
Francisco and The Fenix in Seattle. Also during that time for
two years he promoted his own reggae night at the G-Lounge in
San Diego putting shows on with Micheal Rose, Dub Syndicate,
Ranking Joe, Edi Fitzroy and others. At times he is the DJ for
Tippa Irie when he performs with a sound system in North America.
Since
1998, Carlos Culture has been working with Makeda Dread and
the WorldBeat Organization as a graphic designer, a computer
technician helping establish www.oneworldradiotv.com, and as
a DJ and an on-air personality on Reggae Makossa.
Carlos Culture is also the house DJ at 4th and B, Downtown.
Since 1996 , he is part of the package when reggae is featured
at the club.
In 2001, Makeda Dread and Carlos Culture went to Cabo San Lucas,
Mexico played "Encuentro en La Playa"and were featured
DJs at clubs during Spring Break. In August 2002, they were
the first international reggae DJs to ever play in Peru. Plans
for Costa Rica and Panama are already in the works for the Fall
of 2003 and 2004.
